Campaigns

Plan a launch as a campaign in Litestore and compare what the campaign cost with the revenue it brought in.

A campaign groups everything that belongs to one launch, including its dates, goal, budget and the things you promote with it. It's useful when you need to find out whether a launch paid for itself.

Campaigns switch on and off on their dates.
Each campaign runs between its own start and end dates.

Litestore counts the orders that come in through the campaign and adds up the collab commission those orders earned, so the campaign always shows its cost next to the revenue.

A campaign doesn't copy products or discounts. It references existing records, and Litestore works out its numbers from the orders each time you open it.

This screen lists the store's campaigns. When a collab applies to join a public campaign, Litestore also stores the application here.

Campaign setup

New campaign

Give it dates, a goal and, optionally, a budget.

Add the products, collabs and coupons for the launch. For collabs to be able to apply, make the campaign public and review the applications as they arrive.

Activation

While the campaign is active, attributed orders count toward its revenue. The detail page shows the revenue, the number of orders and the commission accrued so far.

Campaign fields

Each campaign has the fields below. You fill them in when you create it and can change them while it is still open.

FieldWhat it does
NameIdentifies the launch in the campaign list.
GoalStates what the launch should achieve.
DescriptionDescribes the launch in your own words.
Start date and end dateMark when the campaign runs.
StatusShows whether the campaign is draft, active, paused or completed.
BudgetSets the most you plan to spend on the campaign. Litestore shows the accrued commission against it.

Statuses

A campaign can only move between statuses along these paths:

draft → active
active → paused or completed
paused → active or completed
completed → nothing; it is final

You can't move a campaign out of completed, so only complete a launch once you've finished reviewing its numbers.

Budget

A campaign has one budget. Litestore doesn't spend it or enforce it. It uses the figure to show how much of it the campaign's commission has used up. The Earnings card on the detail page shows three figures.

Revenue
Litestore adds up the campaign's paid orders and subtracts refunds.
Orders
Litestore counts the orders attributed to the campaign.
Commission accrued
Litestore adds up the commission those orders earned for collabs.

The budget is optional. If you leave it empty, the Earnings card shows the commission on its own.

Attached records

The campaign's detail page has sections for products, collabs and discounts, next to its status, terms and earnings. Adding a product to a campaign also creates a tracked short link for that product, and pausing or completing the campaign switches its links off.

Attaching an item links it to the campaign without copying it, so each item remains a separate record. A campaign coupon is still an ordinary coupon. You edit it from Discounts, and it remains there after the campaign ends. A coupon or product can belong to a launch and still be used elsewhere in the store.

Applications

A campaign can be private or public. In a private campaign, you add the collabs yourself. In a public campaign, collabs can find the campaign and apply to it. While a public campaign is live, collabs can browse it and see the commission rate and the requirements you wrote for them.

Application

The collab finds the live public campaign and sends an application with a message.

Review

You approve or decline the application and can add a note for the collab.

Each collab can apply to a campaign only once, so they can't reapply to the same campaign after a decision.

Campaign metrics

When someone clicks a campaign link, Litestore sets a campaign cookie in their browser. The cookie is copied onto their order, and when the order is paid, Litestore records the campaign on it.

Litestore doesn't keep running totals for a campaign. It calculates revenue, orders and commission from the orders that carry the campaign each time you open the page, so the figures always match those orders.

Attribution window

If a payment settles after the campaign has ended, been completed or been deleted, Litestore doesn't record the campaign on that order, so the campaign's revenue, orders and commission stay the same.

The collab still earns their commission. Closing the campaign's report has no effect on what a collab is owed.

Going over the budget does not cap commission

If the commission earned on a campaign exceeds its budget, Litestore still pays the commission in full, because the commission is an agreement with the collab. The Earnings card shows the overspend, and pausing the campaign, but Litestore doesn't stop it automatically.
