Feed

Set up an endless product stream that reshuffles every few minutes and show it on any storefront page.

A feed shows shoppers an endless stream of products whose order changes over time. It's useful for a browsing page where returning visitors should see different products each time.

All Products
Positions 1–8 are anchorsNew order every 5 minutes
With an ordered strategy, the first eight products stay in place while the rest rotate.

A feed is a saved selection of products together with a way to order them. You display one by choosing it as the feed of a page in Storefront → Pages. Litestore changes the order every five minutes, so returning visitors see different products near the top.

The admin has no feed editor. The store starts with its feeds from setup, and you change a feed by asking the assistant, which prepares the change for your approval. This needs the autonomy ceiling at Read + Propose + Execute.

Change the home page feed so it shows trending products first and shows sale prices.

Trending ranks products by the units they sold in the last seven days, with the last 24 hours breaking ties. Products with no recent sales follow behind them in the usual order.

On Sale only shows products whose sale price is currently active. It checks the sale period rather than just sorting by a flag, so a product that's marked as on sale but whose sale period has ended isn't included. This keeps the feed from showing discounts that checkout wouldn't apply.

Only an active feed can be chosen for a page. If you deactivate or delete a feed later, the pages that use it show a "No products yet" message instead of filling the space with other products. An empty section is easy to spot and fix, whereas a section showing the wrong products could go unnoticed.

The stream only shows products. Variants don't get their own tiles, so a shirt in six colours appears as a single card.

Rotation

5 minutes one window
16 orderings to draw from
~80 minutes a full cycle

Each five-minute window uses one of sixteen orderings, and sixteen five-minute windows make up the eighty-minute cycle.

The order depends on the time rather than on the visitor. If Litestore ordered products separately for each visitor, every visitor would get a different page. Pages that differ for every visitor can't be cached, so each shopper would have to wait while Litestore built the page for them.

Because the order depends only on the time, every visit during the same window gets the same order, and one cached copy serves all of them. This way the ordering varies while pages stay fast. Someone who visits on Monday and again on Thursday won't see the same eight products in the same positions.

Anchors

Rotation doesn't shuffle every product. With the ordered strategies, the first eight products stay in place. Litestore calls these anchors, and only the products after them rotate.

positions 1–8 anchors, held in place
position 9+ rotated by the window

Anchors exist because an ordering like Bestsellers wouldn't work if the top sellers moved every five minutes. They keep the products you chose at the top, while the products further down still rotate into view.

Random is the exception. It rotates every product, including the first eight, because there's no chosen ordering to preserve.

Rotation exceptions

If a shopper sorts the feed or uses the filter rail beside it, Litestore turns rotation off completely and shows the products in exactly the order the shopper chose. For example, a shopper who picked "price, low to high" sees the products sorted by price.

Page placement

Open a page in Storefront → Pages and choose the feed under the page's content. Each page can show one feed, and the feed appears below the content with the filter rail next to it. If the home page doesn't have a feed of its own, it shows the store's default feed.

Litestore also has a page for browsing at this address:

/feed

It shows the store's default feed with the same filters. The search box in the storefront header sends shoppers here, with the feed filtered by what they typed.

Filters

You don't set up filters for a feed. Litestore builds the filter rail from the catalog, with a filter for category, a price range, one filter for each product option such as size or colour and one for each spec such as material. When some products in the catalog are discounted, the rail also has an on-sale filter. A shopper's choices are stored in the page's URL, so a filtered view can be shared or bookmarked.

Page size and depth

Each load brings in twenty products. Shoppers can keep scrolling until they've seen every product in the feed, because Litestore doesn't limit the number of pages, so even a large catalog can be browsed completely.
